Photosynthesis

The balanced equation for photosynthesis: Know it!

6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy —>   C6H12O6  +  6O2

Carbon dioxide gas + water + sunlight —> glucose (sugar) + oxygen gas

CO2 = carbon dioxide; always comes from the air, enters plant thru stomata
H2O = water; usually delivered from ground by roots
light energy = from solar radiation, captured by green pigments called chlorophyll
C6H12O6  = glucose; a sugar made in plant cells, used as a source of energy by most living things
O2 = oxygen gas; left-over of photosynthesis, and released thru stomata into the air
