Monocots & Dicots

Angiosperms (flowering plants) can be broken into 2 groups: Monocots and Dicots

-Monocots: Plants like palms, grasses, bamboo, lily, tulip, orchids, and garlic whose leaves have parallel veins; never woody plants
-Dicots: Most other plants you know: oak and maple trees, fruit trees, whose leaves have branching veins; all woody plants

See the visible differences between the two plants that help us accurately identify them, including differences in leaf venation, vascular system structure, flower petal number, and number of leaves that sprout out of a germinating seed.
